Alcorn State Instructor Uncovers AI Use in Student Exams, Sparking Viral Discussion
Jason Gibson, an instructor at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, has gained viral attention after revealing how he caught students using AI chatbots to complete a midterm exam. In a TikTok video series, Gibson explained that 32 out of 35 students failed a portion of their midterm for using AI to write a discussion post about the Industrial Revolution. Gibson embedded a hidden instruction in the exam prompt, asking students to include the word 'Madagascar' in a nonsensical way. This tactic exposed the use of AI, as the word appeared in many student responses. Alcorn State University emphasized its commitment to academic integrity, highlighting the importance of preparing students to use AI tools responsibly.
