Severe Storm Sweeps Car Off Ohio Interstate Amid High Winds
A severe storm in central Ohio caused significant disruptions on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. A car traveling on Interstate 71 near downtown Columbus was swept off the highway by a powerful gust of wind, as captured on video. The vehicle was pushed across two lanes and into the center median. At the nearby John Glenn Columbus International Airport, wind gusts reached 82 mph shortly after the incident. The Columbus area was under a severe thunderstorm warning at the time. This storm was part of a larger weather system that caused nearly 500 reports of wind damage across the eastern Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions on Monday, with additional reports continuing into Tuesday. A possible tornado was also reported in the Chicago area, and cities like Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville were under an enhanced risk of severe weather.
