New Research Challenges Scarcity Assumption in Mindfulness Studies
A forthcoming article in Organization Science, co-authored by Ravi S. Kudesia, Cristina, Sara, and Ari, presents a new theory of 'mindful resourcing' that challenges conventional understandings of mindfulness. The research argues that mindfulness, contrary to being a scarce resource to be conserved or balanced, is actually resource-generating. The authors contend that existing scholarship and practical applications of mindfulness often operate under a scarcity metaphor, which contradicts the fundamental principle that increased attention to ongoing events can create resources rather than deplete them. This new perspective emerged from a unique methodological approach that involved identifying the reductive narrative surrounding resources, examining the implicit logic of current mindfulness training, and reconstructing training for under-resourced employees to observe how they applied it in practice.
