Christ Hospital in Cincinnati First in Ohio to Utilize New FDA-Approved Heart Ablation Technology
Doctors at The Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati have become the first in Ohio and the Midwest to perform a heart rhythm procedure using a newly FDA-approved device. This technology, known as the Dual Energy THERMOCOOL SMARTTOUCH SF Platform, allows physicians to switch between two forms of ablation energy—radiofrequency and pulsed field energy—without needing to change catheters during cardiac ablation procedures. The procedure, performed at the hospital's Mt. Auburn campus, marks only the fourth time this specific technology has been used nationwide. Dr. Andrew Noll, medical director of cardiac electrophysiology, and Dr. Alexandru Costea, director of innovation, education, and research in electrophysiology, led the pioneering procedure. This advancement enables doctors to select the most suitable energy type based on a patient's specific anatomy, heart rhythm, and the complexity of their condition, offering a more tailored approach to treatment.
