University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center Renamed, New Medical Building Planned
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been officially renamed the University of Tennessee Health Sciences (UTHS). Chancellor Dr. Peter Buckley announced this subtle change at the Memphis Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon. In addition to the name adjustment, Dr. Buckley unveiled plans for a new seven-story College of Medicine building. This new facility, located at Madison Avenue and Pauline Street, represents a significant investment of $361 million, primarily funded by the State of Tennessee. The project aims to modernize medical education by fostering collaborative training among nurses, doctors, and pharmacists, integrating rural health, AI, and telehealth into the curriculum. This initiative reflects a forward-looking approach to healthcare education and practice.
