Honolulu Joins 'Love Your Block' Initiative to Empower Resident-Led Neighborhood Improvements
The City and County of Honolulu has been selected to join the 'Love Your Block' initiative, a program led by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University. As one of 25 new city halls from 20 U.S. states, Honolulu will receive $70,000 in funding, expert support, and a dedicated 'Love Your Block Fellow' to engage residents in community-led projects. These projects aim to clear vacant lots, reclaim public spaces, and improve neighborhoods, particularly focusing on the Skyline corridor from Pouhala to Ho'ae'ae, including Waipahu, 'Ewa, and Honouliuli. Mayor Rick Blangiardi emphasized that the initiative is about empowering residents to shape meaningful improvements in their own communities.
