Flash Flood Warning Issued for Oahu Amid Heavy Rain
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood warning for Oahu, Hawaii, as heavy rain continues to impact the island. The warning, initially set to expire at 1:15 PM HST, has been extended until 4:15 PM HST. Rainfall rates are currently ranging from 0.5 to 2 inches per hour, with the heaviest precipitation concentrated over the western half of the island. Emergency management officials have reported water flowing over portions of Kamehameha Highway on the North Shore, particularly between Turtle Bay and Sharks Cove, making travel hazardous. Additional showers, some with intense rainfall, are expected to develop and move across the island throughout the afternoon. A broader flood watch remains in effect for Oahu through this evening due to deep tropical moisture drawn northward over the region.
