Germantown Man Charged in Fatal Wrong-Way I-270 Crash That Killed Mother and Daughter
Jose Caballero Nolasco, 32, of Germantown, Maryland, has been charged in connection with a fatal wrong-way collision on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County. The incident occurred on a recent Saturday night when Nolasco, driving a Ford Mustang, traveled northbound in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry. The crash resulted in the deaths of Musammat Shamima Begum, 46, and her daughter Areebah Jahin, 23, both from Virginia, who were passengers in the Toyota. The 62-year-old male driver of the Toyota and an 8-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with injuries. Nolasco was also hospitalized and has since been released and booked at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Investigators suspect that impairment played a role in the collision. Nolasco faces multiple charges, including two counts of gross negligent manslaughter, two counts of homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and one count of life-threatening injury by motor vehicle.
