University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center Renamed to University of Tennessee Health Sciences
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has officially changed its name to the University of Tennessee Health Sciences (UTHS). Dr. Peter Buckley, the university's chancellor, announced this subtle adjustment during the Memphis Rotary Club's weekly luncheon. In addition to the name change, Dr. Buckley presented an artist's rendering of a new, seven-story College of Medicine building planned for Madison Avenue and Pauline Street. This new facility represents a significant investment of $361 million, primarily funded by the State of Tennessee. The groundbreaking for the building is scheduled for later this year, with completion anticipated by 2029 and the first students expected to be welcomed in 2030. The new building aims to foster a collaborative training environment for future doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, integrating rural health, AI, and telehealth activities.
