Cohen stated that he has consistently opposed ICE's presence in the city, advocating for its removal in various forums including the House floor, House Judiciary committee proceedings, and through formal letters. He asserts that Memphis does not have an 'immigration problem' and that ICE's actions are detrimental to the community. Cohen highlighted the 'harshly negative reaction' from the public as evidence that ICE should depart from Memphis. He also criticized Governor Bill Lee, suggesting that the Governor's actions regarding immigration, similar to his stance on redistricting, are aimed at assisting President Trump.
