House Ethics Committee Urges Censure for Representative Chuck Edwards Over Inappropriate Conduct
The House Ethics Committee has recommended that the House censure Representative Chuck Edwards (R-NC) following a three-month investigation. The committee concluded that the 65-year-old congressman failed to adhere to rules prohibiting sexual harassment and unwanted advances toward House staffers. Edwards reportedly engaged in inappropriate behavior with two female staffers, including sending late-night text messages and providing gifts such as designer handbags, personalized handguns, a trip to New York, and Broadway show tickets. CNN's Jake Tapper highlighted a specific instance where Edwards arranged a birthday serenade for a staffer, with the singer stating it was 'from a special someone,' leading the staffer to express fear that the congressman did not view her merely as a 'daughter figure.' Edwards, who has represented North Carolina’s 11th congressional district since 2023, maintained that these were 'professional boss-subordinate relationships and friendships.'
