UK Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq Faces Scrutiny Over Property Gifts and Ties to Ousted Bangladeshi Government
UK Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq is under renewed scrutiny regarding her property dealings and connections to the former government of Sheikh Hasina, her aunt and the recently ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The Sunday Times reported that Siddiq lived in a Hampstead flat gifted to her family by Moin Ghani, a Bangladeshi lawyer who represented Hasina's government. Land Registry documents indicate the transfer of the property to Siddiq's younger sister, Azmina, in 2009 was 'not for money or anything that has a monetary value.' Azmina later sold the flat for $650,000 in 2021. Siddiq used this address on official documents between 2012 and 2014, and her husband also listed it as his address until 2016. Additionally, a Financial Times report triggered calls for Siddiq's resignation from Conservative MPs, alleging she lied about receiving a King's Cross flat, now valued at £700,000, as a gift from a property developer connected to Sheikh Hasina.
