Anand Giridharadas to Launch YouTube Series Ahead of Subway Chokehold Case Book Release
MS NOW political analyst Anand Giridharadas is set to launch an investigative YouTube series on September 8, focusing on the 2023 New York City subway chokehold case involving Jordan Neely and Daniel Penny. This series will precede the September 29 release of his highly anticipated book, 'Man in the Mirror,' published by Knopf, which also delves into the same case and Penny's 2024 manslaughter acquittal. This move is unusual for a top-tier publishing house like Knopf, which typically maintains exclusivity for book releases. The YouTube series aims to deconstruct the events for a visual medium, with each episode opening with a piece of evidence such as an interrogation tape or a death certificate. Giridharadas spent two and a half years researching the case, which became a national flashpoint, polarizing public opinion. The series was developed through Collective Media's Next Gen News accelerator program, designed to support journalists in creating content for YouTube and other digital platforms.
