Costa Rica Announces Scheduled Power Outages for Grid Maintenance on August 4, 2026
Costa Rica's ICE and regional utilities have announced scheduled power outages across five provinces, including San José and Cartago, on August 4, 2026. These outages, lasting between 4 to 9.5 hours, are part of grid maintenance and pole relocation efforts. Despite concerns from local businesses about refrigeration, officials assure that the national electric system has a 99.4% coverage rate and sufficient reserves to meet demand without relying on Panamanian imports. The maintenance is part of a broader modernization effort, including the rollout of Costa Rica's 5G network.
