Severe Weather Threatens Chicago Area After Tornadoes Strike
The Chicago area and northwest Indiana are bracing for another round of severe weather following Tuesday's storms, which brought three confirmed tornadoes with wind speeds of 86 to 110 mph. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Joliet, Kankakee, and DeKalb until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with potential downpours and gusty winds up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Tuesday's tornadoes caused significant damage, including downed trees and power outages in Mokena, southern Cook County, and eastern Will County. Illinois has already recorded 198 tornadoes this year, breaking its previous annual record of 142.
