Cyberattacks on U.S. Water Systems Linked to Iran-Backed Hackers Raise Security Concerns
Cyberattacks suspected to be linked to Iran-backed hackers have targeted water systems in at least 12 U.S. states, including New Jersey. These attacks have compromised remote-control capabilities, forcing some utilities to switch to manual operations. In Georgia, a cyberattack led to a temporary water pressure drop and a boil water advisory. Federal agencies, including the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, have issued warnings about these threats. While no impact on drinking water has been reported, the attacks highlight vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.
