Roku Launches Fairground AI Creator TV, Offering 24/7 AI-Generated Content
Roku's free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service has introduced a new channel called Fairground AI Creator TV. This channel curates and broadcasts AI-generated short films from creators globally, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with limited commercial interruptions, some of which are also AI-generated. Fairground is described as the first channel of its kind, presenting a vision of media's future where imagination is unconstrained. The content varies widely in quality and theme, ranging from sci-fi and documentary to fantasy, often lacking clear context between segments. For example, a short comedic piece might be followed by a 20-minute drama. The channel's founder and CEO, Colin Petrie-Norris, views the project as being in its early stages, emphasizing the potential for generative AI to democratize creativity and improve over time. He also noted that Fairground vets videos and works with creators to refine scripts and prompts.
