California Democrats Criticize FCC Over Disney TV Station License Reviews
More than 16 congressional Democrats have criticized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its decision to conduct an early review of Disney's TV station licenses, including KABC-TV in Los Angeles and KGO-TV in San Francisco. The lawmakers argue that the FCC's actions are politically motivated, influenced by President Trump's dissatisfaction with media coverage. The review, led by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, was initiated after President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump expressed discontent over a joke made by ABC's late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. The FCC claims the review is due to concerns about Disney's internal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, but the lawmakers contend there is no evidence of legal violations by Disney. The review process, which is rare and has not resulted in a license revocation in four decades, is set to conclude with public comments due by July 29.
