U.S. Supports Colombia with $1 Billion Security Package to Combat Narcoterrorism
The United States has announced a $1 billion security package to support Colombia in its fight against narcoterrorism and to bolster economic development. This initiative is part of the Escudo de las Américas, an international security coalition led by the White House. The package aims to enhance Colombian security forces with advanced U.S. technology, expand coca eradication and cocaine interception operations, dismantle narcoterrorist organizations through asset freezes and prosecution, and protect minors from forced recruitment. The initiative, supported by U.S. Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, underscores the strategic alliance between the two nations.
