Michael Lynn Released for Community Service After Theft Conviction
Michael Lynn, a former solicitor convicted of stealing over €18 million from financial institutions, has been released from prison to perform community service. Lynn was sentenced to 5½ years in 2024 for his crimes during the Celtic Tiger era. His release is part of the Community Return Scheme, which allows prisoners to serve part of their sentence through supervised community service. Lynn's conviction involved multiple counts of theft, where he obtained multiple mortgages on the same properties without the banks' knowledge. Despite challenging his sentence, the Court of Appeal upheld the decision, citing his actions as a severe breach of trust.
