Southern California Faces Intense Heat Wave, Fire Weather, and Coastal Flooding Risks
Southern California is experiencing a significant heat wave, with temperatures reaching the 90s (32-37°C) in Los Angeles County and exceeding 100°F (37.8°C) in the Inland Empire. Desert areas, including Victorville, Antelope Valley, and Coachella Valley, are expected to see temperatures as high as 112°F (44.4°C). On Saturday, Death Valley recorded a scorching 124°F (51.1°C), just one degree shy of its August 8 record. Coastal areas remain cooler, with highs of 81°F (27.2°C) in San Diego and 79°F (26.1°C) at Los Angeles International Airport. A heat advisory is in effect for much of the region, while the deserts and San Joaquin Valley are under an extreme heat warning. Additionally, high tides and warm ocean temperatures are contributing to coastal flooding risks in areas like San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay through early Thursday morning.
