Steve Hilton Proposes Tax Relief Plan to Reshape California
Steve Hilton, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in California, has unveiled a plan aimed at reshaping the state's financial landscape by providing tax relief. Hilton's proposal includes eliminating state income taxes on the first $150,000 of earnings for Californians, which he plans to offset by reducing government waste, cutting bureaucracy, and shrinking the size of the government. This plan contrasts sharply with his Democratic opponent, Xavier Becerra, who has proposed offering two hours of free electricity per day to lower utility bills, a move Hilton criticized as impractical. Hilton's approach seeks to address the doubling of the state general-fund budget over the past decade, questioning whether Californians have received double the public services in return. His plan also targets high-profile taxpayer-funded projects like the high-speed rail and homelessness initiatives, which he argues have not delivered promised results.
