Tropical Storm Rachel Downgraded, Flood Risks Persist
Tropical Storm Rachel has been downgraded to a post-tropical storm after causing significant flooding and damage in Southern California over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm's remnants are now moving inland across the desert southwest, bringing heavy rain, wind gusts, and high surf. Coastal areas, including Long Beach and Newport Beach, experienced partial submersion of oceanfront homes as heavy surf breached sand berms. Flood warnings remain in effect along the California coastline, from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay area. Additionally, Las Vegas recorded a daily rainfall record on Sunday, and a flood watch has been issued for much of Utah, including Salt Lake City, where heavy rain is expected to continue.
