Bellevue City Council Approves $50 Million in Bonds for Water Park Construction
The Bellevue City Council has given its approval for the issuance of up to $50 million in bonds to finance the construction of a new water park. This decision comes after a clarification regarding an initial typo in the agenda, which mistakenly listed the amount as $50,000. Mayor Rusty Hike confirmed that while the agenda contained this error, the supporting documents accurately reflected the $50 million figure. City officials have indicated that the primary reason for issuing this substantial amount in bonds is due to very high inflation. Construction for the water park is already in progress at a site located northwest of the Highway 34 and Highway 765 interchange. The project is anticipated to be completed and open to the public in 2027. Community development director Harrison Johnson stated that the water park is intended to be a significant benefit to Bellevue residents, with revenue generated by the facility expected to be used for bond repayment.
