Similarly, Thermal, California, reached 118°F (47.8°C), surpassing its previous record of 117°F (47.2°C) from 2020. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), this marks the hottest day of the year so far in the Coachella Valley. An extreme heat warning remains in effect until Friday, August 28, at 8 p.m. PT. Gradual cooling is expected over the weekend, with highs forecasted to drop to 102°F (38.9°C) by Monday, August 31. Meteorologist David Munyan noted that while there is a low chance of rain early next week, the forecast remains uncertain, with potential tropical moisture possibly bringing precipitation to the region.
