Red Flag Warning Issued for Lightning and Erratic Winds in California's Central Coast
A red flag warning has been issued for California's Central Coast and the Santa Cruz Mountains, effective from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted thunderstorms with minimal rainfall due to moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Iselle. Rainfall is expected to be less than 0.1 inches, with most precipitation evaporating before reaching the ground. The rain-cooled air is predicted to generate 'erratic outflow winds' with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, increasing the risk of rapid fire spread. The warning also extends to parts of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Lightning-sparked fires are possible in the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada, with a marginal risk of flash flooding in areas from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite to Mammoth.
