Washington Attorney General Challenges Puget Sound Energy's Proposed Rate Increases
Washington Attorney General Nick Brown is challenging Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) proposal to significantly increase gas and electric rates over the next three years. The proposed hikes include a 29% increase in electric rates and a 20% increase in gas rates. The Attorney General's office argues these increases are excessive and unreasonable, suggesting that PSE could save customers $695 million in 2027 by adjusting their financial strategies. PSE, a private utility company serving western Washington, has been criticized for its high dividend payouts to shareholders and spending on non-service-related projects. The proposed rate increases would add substantial costs to customers' bills, with electric rates potentially increasing by $28.31 per month and gas rates by $13.63 per month for the average household by 2027.
