Laney High School Community Mourns Student Killed in Solo Vehicle Crash
The Laney High School community in Wilmington, North Carolina, is mourning the loss of Jacob Fernandez-Villa, a student who died in a solo vehicle crash. The accident occurred around 1:58 a.m. on July 30, when the vehicle left the road, struck a ditch, and hit several trees. Fernandez-Villa was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Friends and classmates have organized tributes, including a paddle out at Wrightsville Beach, to honor his memory. The school has opened its gym for grief support, providing mental health resources to students and staff.
