A possible waterspout was spotted near Lynn’s Place on Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Witnesses reported seeing a funnel cloud just outside the no-wake line before heavy rain obscured the spout. Meteorologist Christopher Cawley recorded over two inches of rain in Whiteville by 5 p.m., following an inch of rainfall the previous day. The National Weather Service in Wilmington noted that conditions at Lake Waccamaw were conducive to the formation of a short-lived waterspout, although no official reports were received.
