Raleigh Experiences Second-Wettest July on Record Without Tropical Systems
Raleigh, North Carolina, has recorded its second-wettest July on record, surpassing the total rainfall from January through June 2026. This unusual weather pattern has occurred without the influence of any named tropical storms or hurricanes. According to WRAL (2026-07-29), the heavy rainfall is attributed to a series of stalled cold fronts in the region. During summer, upper-level winds that typically push these fronts eastward are located farther north, causing the fronts to stall. This stalling creates conditions for storm systems to form along the boundaries of contrasting air masses, drawing in tropical moisture and resulting in significant rainfall.
