Rain Eases Drought Conditions in North Carolina, Aids Agriculture
Rainfall across North Carolina on Thursday and Friday has provided much-needed relief to the state, which has been grappling with significant drought conditions. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor's 8 a.m. report, 28.73% of the state remains in exceptional or extreme drought, a marked improvement from last week when 38.7% of the state was in extreme drought and 5.32% in exceptional drought. Rainfall totals have exceeded 4 inches in several areas, including High Point (6.35 inches), Burlington (5.19 inches), and Greensboro (5.01 inches). Flash flooding forecasts have been issued for the northern Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain regions, while river levels, which had risen earlier in the week, are expected to rise again over the weekend. The rain is also expected to benefit North Carolina's agriculture, which is a $102 billion industry, particularly aiding crops like corn, soybeans, and tobacco.
