Delaware's Use of Flock Cameras Sparks Debate Over Privacy and Security
In Delaware, the use of license plate readers supplied by Flock Safety has sparked both praise and protest. These cameras are used by major police forces, including Delaware State Police and those in New Castle County and Wilmington, as well as smaller municipal forces. The cameras capture vehicle information to aid in solving crimes such as hit-and-runs and stolen vehicles. However, concerns have been raised about privacy and the potential misuse of data. Police officials emphasize that access to the data is restricted and monitored to prevent abuse. Despite the controversy, some cities, like Wilmington, are decommissioning their Flock cameras due to privacy concerns and lack of formal contracts.
