North Carolina Mother Missing for 24 Years Found Alive, Citing Domestic Issues for Disappearance
Michele Hundley Smith, a North Carolina mother who vanished 24 years ago while Christmas shopping, has been found alive and well. Her disappearance in 2001 left her three children, then aged seven, 14, and 19, and prompted investigations by both local police and the FBI. Earlier this year, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office confirmed she was 'alive and well' after receiving a tip-off. Michele Hundley Smith cited unspecified 'domestic issues' as her reason for fleeing and requested that her current whereabouts remain confidential. Her daughter, Amanda Smith, expressed a mix of emotions, including being 'ecstatic' and 'pissed,' but ultimately extended forgiveness, stating, 'life's too short for me to hold a grudge against her because she's my mom.' The family had been traumatized by her disappearance, which had been a cold case for decades.
