Clinton Bridge Replacement Plan Faces Community Opposition
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) has proposed replacing the only bridge connecting drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to Clinton Town Beach. The current 79-foot bridge, which is one-way with a pedestrian path, is slated to be replaced due to structural concerns. The proposed new bridge would be 24 feet wide, allowing for two-way traffic and sidewalks on both sides. However, many residents oppose the plan, citing concerns about increased traffic and speed. They value the existing bridge's character and its role in community life. Some residents, however, support the new design, seeing it as an opportunity to improve pedestrian access and modernize the structure.
