Five Tornadoes Confirmed in Illinois; Monee Tornado Upgraded to EF-2
The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that five tornadoes touched down during a severe weather outbreak in Illinois and Indiana on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Among these, an EF-0 tornado with winds between 65 and 85 mph struck Oswego, Illinois, at approximately 10:15 a.m. CDT. Additionally, an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 90 mph was reported in Wilmington, Illinois. Three other tornadoes, all rated EF-1 with winds between 86 and 110 mph, were confirmed in Chicago's southern suburbs, including Oak Forest, Flossmoor, and Mokena. Notably, a tornado in Will County near Crete and Monee, which extended into Crown Point, Indiana, was upgraded to EF-2 status, with winds between 111 and 135 mph. The NWS continues to survey damage in the affected areas.
