Mississippi Department of Public Safety Building Imploded in Jackson
The old Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) tower in Jackson, Mississippi, was demolished via implosion on Sunday morning. The building, which had been a fixture since 1976, was deemed unsafe by state officials due to years of sinking. Explosives were strategically placed throughout all five floors and detonated in sequence to bring down the structure. The demolition necessitated significant road closures, affecting Interstate 55 from Lakeland to Fortification Street and a portion of Woodrow Wilson Avenue, which began at 7:45 a.m. The implosion marks the end of an era for the building, which had served as a key state facility for decades before its structural integrity became compromised.
