Former Georgia Board of Education Director and Husband Charged in Alleged $50,000 Grant Theft
Kimberley Kerchelle Simmons, 52, a former Director of Special Education for the Greene County Board of Education, and her husband, Eric Geroy Simmons, 58, both of Milledgeville, have been charged in connection with the alleged theft of approximately $50,000 in school grant funds. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced that Kimberley Simmons faces charges of theft by taking and false statements, while Eric Simmons is charged with theft by taking. The investigation commenced on July 24 after the Greene County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI look into allegations of fund misuse by Kimberley Simmons. She resigned from her position with the Greene County Board of Education on September 2, prior to which she had been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review. Both individuals have been booked into the Greene County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing.
