Court Rules Against Rokita's Appeal in Evansville Labor Trafficking Case
The Court of Appeals of Indiana has ruled against State Attorney General Todd Rokita's appeal in a case involving Berry Global Group and the Haitian Center of Evansville. Rokita sought to enforce civil investigative demands (CIDs) to gather information on potential migrant-related human labor trafficking. However, the court upheld a previous ruling by Superior Court Judge Robert J. Pigman, stating that Rokita had not demonstrated a basis for an investigation. The court emphasized that without specific allegations or evidence, there is no authority to issue CIDs.
