University of Nebraska–Lincoln Unveils New Westbrook Music Building, Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaboration
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) has dedicated its new Westbrook Music Building, an $81 million, 103,000-square-foot facility that replaces the previous 1967 structure. The building, home to the Glenn Korff School of Music, was made possible by $75 million in support from the Nebraska Legislature through LB 384, a deferred maintenance bill. Interim Chancellor Katherine S. Ankerson emphasized that the true measure of the building will be the opportunities it provides for students and faculty. Andrew Belser, dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, highlighted that the new facility, with its recording studio and immersive performance environment, will enable musicians to collaborate with filmmakers, emerging media artists, designers, sound engineers, and visual artists across the college and university. The dedication event on October 1 featured remarks from university officials and a performance by the University Singers.
