Father and Son Killed by Vehicle on I-65 North in Birmingham
A tragic incident occurred late Sunday night on I-65 North in Birmingham, Alabama, resulting in the deaths of a father and son, Cornelius Leray Dixon, 56, and Jamari Tre’vionne Dixon, 22. Both men, residents of Birmingham, were pedestrians in the northbound lanes of the interstate, specifically between Finley Boulevard and 32nd Avenue North, when they were struck by a vehicle around 11:30 p.m. According to authorities, the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and promptly contacted the police. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the victims and stated that Cornelius Dixon was injured at 11:42 p.m., with his son being struck approximately one minute later. Both were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight on Monday. The Birmingham Police Department has initiated an investigation into the crash to determine the circumstances that led to the father and son being in the interstate roadway and the events surrounding their deaths.
