National Hurricane Center Monitors Tropical Systems 96L and 95L
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring two tropical systems in the Atlantic basin during the peak of the 2026 hurricane season. Invest 96L, located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands, has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression within 48 hours. If it remains weak, it may move westward toward the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the southeastern Bahamas. Alternatively, stronger development could steer it northward into the open Atlantic. Meanwhile, Invest 95L, situated a couple of hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda, has a 40% chance of short-term development but is expected to encounter unfavorable conditions by Wednesday. The Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks around September 10, has been relatively quiet so far, with below-average storm activity and Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE).
