Houston Considers $13 Million Project for Telephone Road Safety and Drainage Improvements
The city of Houston is evaluating a $13 million proposal to upgrade Telephone Road, a corridor identified as one of the city's most hazardous for both drivers and pedestrians. This year alone, KPRC 2 has documented 32 crashes on Telephone Road, including two fatal incidents in August. The proposed investment, which requires city council approval, would allocate funds for essential street repairs, the installation of new crosswalks, and the construction of sidewalks along a specific section of the road. Houston City Council Member Joaquin Martinez, representing District I, is advocating for these improvements, highlighting the urgent need for better crosswalk markings, signage, and lighting. Construction on the northern part of Telephone Road is slated to commence in the fall, necessitating alternative routes for commuters.
