Georgia Public Service Commission Decisions Impacting Rising Electricity Bills
Electricity bills in Georgia have seen dramatic increases in recent years, prompting public concern. The primary regulatory body responsible for these utility rates is the Public Service Commission (PSC), a five-person elected body. The PSC holds the final authority over major decisions made by Georgia Power, including the rates customers are charged, the approval of new power plant constructions (including those for data centers), and the environmental impact of these facilities. Two of the five PSC seats are up for election this November, highlighting the direct influence citizens have on the commission's composition and, consequently, their utility costs.
