South Fulton Recycling Facility Fire Prompts Smoke Advisory and Flight Pattern Changes
A massive fire at a recycling facility on Mallory Road in South Fulton, Georgia, has led to significant smoke plumes, flight pattern alterations at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and a local smoke advisory. The fire, which started on Sunday afternoon, involved exploding propane cylinders and computer batteries, causing projectiles and heavy black smoke. Fire Marshal Gregory Chambers confirmed that the facility, Providence Green, houses three businesses involved in recycling and storage of computer parts, batteries, and motherboards. No injuries have been reported, and no one was inside the facility when the fire began. Crews remained on scene overnight due to intense heat preventing entry into the building to investigate the cause. The smoke is visible for miles, including from downtown Atlanta, and has prompted officials to advise nearby residents to stay indoors with windows closed and avoid drawing outside air into their homes.
