Texas Tech University Offers Legal Services to Students for Various Civil and Criminal Matters
Texas Tech University's Student Legal Services (SLS) provides legal advice, counsel, and limited representation to eligible students enrolled at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. These services cover a range of common legal issues, including landlord and tenant disputes, criminal defense, expunctions, estate planning, family law, consumer issues, and other civil matters. Eligibility for these services is contingent upon being a registered student who has paid the Student Service Fee. The SLS is staffed by licensed attorneys, and client confidentiality is strictly maintained, meaning case information will not be released to third parties without the student's authorization. While some matters, such as employment law, immigration, and contested family cases, are handled through consultation only, SLS can also provide referrals to private attorneys or outside agencies when appropriate. Additionally, the service offers notary services and legal education workshops.
