Jim McGuiggan, Minister Known for Sermons on Suffering, Dies at 88
Jim McGuiggan, a minister renowned for his sermons focusing on the Christian response to suffering, passed away on July 29 at the age of 88. A memorial service was held at the Northside Church of Christ in Nashville, Tenn. McGuiggan, born in Belfast, was a graduate of Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, Texas, and preached for Churches of Christ across the U.S. and Europe. He also established a school of preaching in Northern Ireland. His nephew, Billy McGuiggan, noted that Jim read numerous books weekly and was a prolific author, with 'The God of the Towel' being among his most widely read works. His life experiences, including enduring the Belfast Blitz of 1941 and caring for his wife Ethel who suffered from chronic health issues, deeply informed his ministry on suffering.
