Virginia Court of Appeals Reinstates Indictments Against Registered Sex Offender Richard Cox
The Court of Appeals of Virginia has reinstated indictments against Richard Cox, a registered sex offender. Cox is accused of exposing himself in locker rooms within Arlington Public Schools and at a county recreation center. An Arlington judge had previously dismissed these charges, citing them as unconstitutionally vague. However, Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti (D) appealed this decision, leading to the current reinstatement of the indictments. This development means the legal proceedings against Cox will move forward, overturning the earlier dismissal that had halted the case. The initial dismissal by the Arlington judge had raised questions about the clarity and enforceability of the relevant statutes concerning public indecency and the protection of individuals in public facilities, particularly those frequented by minors.
