Teenager Charged with Second-Degree Manslaughter in Brush Prairie Park Shooting
James Gill, 18, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Trent Richardson at Hockinson Meadows Community Park in Brush Prairie, Washington. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on a Saturday. According to court documents, Gill told officers that Richardson handed him a handgun to look at, and while Gill was holding it, someone bumped him, causing the gun to discharge and strike Richardson in the chest. Richardson died at the scene. Witnesses reported that people were drinking, partying, and lighting fireworks at the park. Gill, who was a top high school baseball player and set to play at the University of Washington, is currently out of jail under intense supervised release with several restrictions. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.
