Sennett Fire Department Awarded $1 Million State Grant for Equipment and Facility Upgrades
The Sennett Fire Department in Cayuga County, New York, has been awarded a $1 million grant through the Volunteer Fire Infrastructure and Response Equipment (V-FIRE) Grant Program. This program, administered by the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, aims to provide financial support for equipment purchases, facility improvements, and the consolidation of services for volunteer fire departments. The Sennett Fire Department is one of 10 departments statewide to receive the maximum $1 million award in this round of funding. Overall, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 65 volunteer fire departments across New York State will share $25 million in V-FIRE grants. The funding is distributed equitably across the state's economic development regions, excluding New York City. In the Central New York region, which includes Cayuga County, eight departments will receive over $3.8 million, with four of those being in Cayuga County itself.
