Niagara, N.Y.-Area Fire Departments Receive $1 Million in Federal Grants for Training and Equipment
Four fire departments in the Niagara Region of New York are set to receive nearly $1 million in federal grants. These funds are allocated through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) programs. The grants are part of a larger $13.2 million in funding designated for fire departments across upstate New York, as announced by United States Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The AFG and SAFER programs aim to provide essential training and equipment for both professional and volunteer fire departments. The North Tonawanda Fire Department received the largest grant of $443,654, which will be used to train eight firefighters as paramedics.
